The Vision Council (TVC) has announced the release and approval of Version 3.14 of the Data Communication Standard, marking a significant update aimed at enhancing interconnectivity and efficiency within optical manufacturing.
Developed by the organization’s data communications standard committee, the latest version introduces revised frameworks and streamlined record structures designed to improve how machines and software systems involved in ophthalmic lens fabrication share information. These changes are intended to support more consistent and accurate communication between equipment and software across optical labs.
The standard, which has been under development for three years by a group of volunteer experts from across the industry, reflects ongoing efforts to adapt to emerging technologies, TVC shares. Version 3.14 reorganizes data point definitions and aligns with current technological demands, enabling greater interoperability between manufacturers of lab equipment and software developers.
“This milestone underscores our mission to support the optical community with standards that meet today’s technical challenges,” says Michael Vitale, TVC's vice president of membership, government relations, & technical affairs. “Version 3.14 represents a significant step forward in fostering compatibility and efficiency within optical labs.”
