Eyewear company Marcolin has begun a collaboration with the New York Institute of Technology (New York Tech) on “Vision Reframed: Designing Eyewear Beyond Boundaries,” a project focused on exploring new approaches to eyewear design through the principles of neurodiversity, well-being, and sustainability.
The initiative brought together students from New York Tech’s Departments of Architecture, Interior Design, Digital Art and Design, and the medical school. Under the guidance of faculty members Jordan Keys and Alessandro Melis, and with input from Marcolin’s design team, students developed eyewear concepts that incorporated aesthetics, ergonomics, technology, and considerations related to user inclusion and well-being.
Participants took part in workshops covering inclusive design, sustainable materials, artificial intelligence, and mixed reality. The program was structured to encourage exchange between academic researchers and industry professionals, fostering engagement between creative and technical expertise.
The collaboration opened with an event attended by New York Tech and Marcolin leadership. Marcolin CEO and general manager Fabrizio Curci delivered a keynote on innovation and social responsibility within the eyewear industry, while Marcolin executives Marco D’Acunzo, CEO of Marcolin North America; Lara Marogna, group style and product development director; and Clara Magnanini, group communication and environmental, social, and governance director, discussed the company’s goals for the partnership.
Final project presentations were held on Nov. 12 before a jury composed of representatives from New York Tech and Marcolin. Selected concepts received awards and may move forward to prototype development. Students responsible for the top projects may also be considered for mentorship opportunities or internships with Marcolin.
