
Latinos en Optometry, in collaboration with Zeiss, will host a panel discussion titled “Prospects for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging in Optometry” from 10:15-10:45 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, on the Main Stage at Vision Expo West.
The discussion will focus on how diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are influencing the future of optometry. Panelists will address efforts to improve access to care, increase representation in education and leadership, and support equity-focused initiatives within the profession.
Ashley Mills, CEO of The Vision Council, will moderate the panel composed of Howard Purcell, OD, FAAO, FNAP, president and CEO of the New England College of Optometry and cofounder and board member of Latinos en Optometry; Ruth Shoge, OD, MPH, FAAO, chief diversity officer and associate clinical professor at the Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science; and Maricruz Garza, regional business development manager of Carl Zeiss Vision Inc.
