InfantSEE, a public health program that offers no-cost, comprehensive eye and vision assessments for infants, held two hands-on workshops during Optometry’s Meeting 2025. More than 100 optometry students participated in live examinations alongside experienced doctors of optometry and infant patients.
“Having seasoned professionals lead the way with curious infants and their parents keeps the environment fun with just the right amount of real-world experience,” says Jennifer Zolman, OD, InfantSEE and children’s vision committee chair.
Managed by the American Optometric Association (AOA) Foundation and supported since its inception by Johnson & Johnson, InfantSEE aims to integrate eye and vision care into infant wellness. Since launching in 2005, the program has grown to 3,800 providers and has conducted over 172,000 assessments.
“These workshops emphasize the importance of training the next generation of doctors of optometry to provide this essential service," says Charissa Lee, OD, MBA, FAAO, head of North America professional affairs at Johnson & Johnson. "Each workshop offers something new and applicable to conducting infant eye exams, while encouraging students to become providers after graduation.”
This fall, InfantSEE will expand training opportunities with workshops at the Indiana University School of Optometry and the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry, for the Midwestern and Western Regional Conferences. Each conference will feature three workshops. Additionally, three virtual workshops will also be offered in September and October via AOA’s EyeLearn platform. Details for the virtual workshops are forthcoming.
