Since its founding in 2007, Barton Perreira has set its own course in the world of luxury eyewear—one defined not by logos or trends but by craftsmanship and timeless design. Standing at the helm with a clear, ambitious vision is cofounder and designer Patty Perreira, whose artistic sensibility and reverence for design heritage shape each frame. Now entering a new phase of growth, Barton Perreira is poised to bring its understated luxury to new markets while staying true to the values that built its following.

Here, Perreira shares with EB her goals for the brand, design philosophies, and perspectives on how strategic collaborations and mindful production are redefining luxury in the eyewear space.
EB: How do your experiences influence your design philosophy, and how do you balance tradition with contemporary trends?
Patty Perreira: I’m constantly learning, whether [from] architecture, modern and vintage art, or couture clothing. The Japanese philosophy of artisanal eyewear—centered on precision, balance, and a profound respect for form and function—has deeply influenced my approach to design. At the same time, I’m continually inspired by modern elements. My goal is to fuse these influences in a way that feels both enduring and forward thinking, crafting pieces that honor heritage while speaking to the present.
EB: Barton Perreira is in an era of expansion, considering the recent partnership with Thélios. What are your goals for the brand moving forward?
PP: Over the next few years, our vision is to grow Barton Perreira into a globally recognized name, while maintaining [the] core values and product integrity that have made us successful thus far. [Thélios’] international resources, market knowledge, and network provide an incredible opportunity for us to introduce the brand to new audiences and build long-term presence in key markets.
EB: How do collaborations, like with artists like Kerin Rose Gold and franchises like James Bond, impact your design approach?
PP: Collaborations allow me to step outside the boundaries of Barton Perreira’s DNA...[and] see things through someone else’s creative lens. It’s in these moments of exchange—where different aesthetics, experiences, and philosophies meet—that innovative design can happen.
EB: How does the trend toward sustainability impact your design and production processes?
PP: Sustainability has been a core value since the inception of the brand. From a design perspective, I intentionally avoid chasing fast-moving trends, which allows each piece to feel more timeless and enduring. On the production side, we’re committed to using materials that are more environmentally responsible…[which] helps us reduce our carbon footprint while staying true to our design philosophy.
EB: How do you see independent optical retailers shaping the luxury eyewear market?
PP: With more access to information, consumers have become so much more discerning; they’re not just looking for a logo or a trend. People want to invest in pieces that feel personal and timeless—[and] independent optical retailers play a crucial role. What sets them apart is their personal connection to both the product and the customer—they take the time to educate consumers on what makes eyewear truly exceptional. Their expertise and storytelling help elevate the experience, turning a simple purchase into a meaningful investment.
