Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) has announced the launch of its 2026 World Sight Day Challenge with the theme "It's not just sight. It's an entire future.” OGS says this theme reflects the impact that access to primary eye care can have on education, employment, and quality of life.
Running from September 1 through October 31, the fundraising campaign encourages optometry practices, schools, industry partners, and individual supporters to raise funds for sustainable vision care programs around the world. Specifically, funds raised through the annual campaign support programs that provide eye exams, glasses, and optometry training in underserved communities.
New features for the 2026 campaign include a live practice leaderboard, expanded contests for practices and schools, and a refreshed digital toolkit with social media assets, patient email templates, fundraising guides, and other promotional materials that are designed to support participation.
Registration is free and open to optometry practices, optometry schools, industry partners, and individual supporters worldwide. Participants may choose from a variety of fundraising approaches, including donating 1 day's exam fees or organizing community events. All funds are due by November 30, 2026.
Over the past 20 years, OGS reports that its funding has helped provide primary eyecare services to more than 15 million people, supports the training of more than 14,000 eyecare professionals, and contributes to the establishment of more than 200 vision centers in over 70 countries.
World Sight Day will take place on October 13 this year.
