EssilorLuxottica marks its 2026 Sustainability Week from April 20-24 with a series of initiatives highlighting environmental progress and ongoing climate commitments, aligned with the Earth Day theme “Our Power, Our Planet.”
The company said its sustainability strategy is guided by its “Eyes on the Planet” program, which includes a focus on carbon reduction across its global value chain. Under this framework, EssilorLuxottica has set emissions targets that were validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative in November 2024 and aligned with the Paris Agreement. The company aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and selected Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030, using 2022 as a baseline.
A key component of the strategy is the expansion of renewable energy across operations. Since 2013, EssilorLuxottica shares it has installed more than 115,000 photovoltaic panels at 40 sites in 19 countries. In 2025, additional on-site renewable energy projects were introduced in China, Germany, Italy, Laos, and Thailand, increasing total installed capacity to more than 62 megawatts. The company reported that these installations generate approximately 31,450 megawatt-hours of renewable energy annually and contribute to an estimated 50,000 metric tons of avoided carbon emissions.
One of the company’s largest contributions comes from its facility in Agordo, Italy, where a 5-megawatt biomass plant produces thermal energy using residual forest materials. The plant supplies a majority of the site’s heating needs and a portion of its cooling demand.
In addition to on-site generation, EssilorLuxottica expanded its use of externally sourced renewable electricity. In 2025, the company procured more than 1 million megawatt-hours of renewable energy through Energy Attribute Certificates, bringing the share of renewable energy in its total global consumption to 65%.
The company also highlighted efforts to improve energy efficiency across its retail network of approximately 18,000 stores worldwide. Pilot locations have reported energy-use reductions of about 15% through a combination of operational changes and technology upgrades, including systems based on artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things.
As part of Sustainability Week, EssilorLuxottica scheduled a virtual event on April 22 via its Leonardo learning platform, featuring executives including Chief Corporate Sustainability Officer Elena Dimichino, Renewable Energy Manager Giorgio Visciglio, and Head of Construction, Engineering & Facility Management Francesco Fassio, who outlined the company’s environmental initiatives and progress.
EssilorLuxottica said additional details are available in its 2025 Sustainability Report.
