Eco Eyewear, an independent brand under House of Modo, continues to advance its sustainability efforts through its “One Frame, One Tree” initiative, a program that links eyewear purchases to global reforestation efforts. According to the company, a tree is planted for every frame sold, with more than 4.2 million trees planted to date.
The initiative is carried out in partnership with the nonprofit Trees for the Future, which works with farming communities to establish “forest gardens.” These agroforestry systems are designed to restore degraded land, improve food security, and provide long-term income opportunities for smallholder farmers.
Through this approach, the program aims to address both environmental and socioeconomic challenges. The planting of trees contributes to carbon sequestration and increased biodiversity while also supporting local communities with access to food, education, and economic development.
Eco Eyewear reports that the cumulative impact of the program includes significant carbon capture and land restoration, alongside support for farming families participating in the forest garden model. The company positions the initiative as part of its broader sustainability strategy, noting that the tree-planting efforts contribute to its goal of operating as a carbon-negative brand—removing more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than it produces.
Launched alongside the brand in 2009, “One Frame, One Tree” remains a central component of Eco Eyewear’s environmental and social impact initiatives, tying consumer purchases directly to reforestation and community development efforts worldwide.
