  • Safilo Notes Progress in 3Q

    Safilo reports an upswing in returns for the 3Q 2013 with recently reviewed and approved results released by the board of directors. Reports the company: "The third quarter of 2013 ended with a Group net profit of Euro 1.7 million which compared to the loss of Euro 0.6 million for the same quarter of 2012. It is to be highlighted that Safilo returned to a profit in the third quarter for the first time since 2007."
    "The adjusted2 Group net profit for the first nine months of 2013 reached Euro 27.3 million, up 30.8% compared to the first nine months of 2012."
  • Essilor Acquires Costa

    November 2013
    Essilor International and Costa Inc. have announced the signature of an agreement for the acquisition of all outstanding shares of Costa Inc., a US leader in high-performance sunglasses. Previously known as A.T. Cross, Lincoln, RI-based Costa Inc. (NASDAQ: ATX) designs, assembles and markets sunglasses under the Costa® and Native® brands. It is expected to report approximately $100 million in revenue in 20131.
  • Marcolin Acquires Viva International Group

    October 2013
    HOT NEWS: Marcolin SpA and its affiliates backed by leading European private equity firm PAI Partners together with HVHC Inc., the holding company for Visionworks of America, Inc., Davis Vision, Inc. and Viva Optique, Inc. (Viva International), today announced the signing of a Stock Purchase Agreement under which Marcolin agrees to acquire Viva International. The acquisition, which is subject to satisfaction of customary closing conditions (including required domestic and international governmental approvals) is expected to become effective in the next few months.

    Prevent Blindness America and the Children’s Vision Massachusetts coalition are pleased to announce that they are recipients of a 5-year, $235,000 grant from Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to fund the children’s sight-saving project, “Healthy Eyes Healthy Futures Massachusetts.”

    The Intercept and Vayper models will roll out at 450 GameStop stores, with the doors expected to expand based on sell-through, company representatives note.

    In addition to running his successful optical shop, Sports Optical, in Lakewood, CO, optician/owner Bret Hunter managed to compete in and win the RallyCross Nationals in 2009.

    Held on a mixed-surface dirt racecourse, RallyCross is a sprint style of extreme automobile racing involving specially built cars.
