With 94% of schools closed across the country for the last few months of the academic year, kids are facing a significant impact—emotionally and educationally—from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A recent survey conducted by Save the Children of 1,500 U.S. households revealed that nearly half of kids today (49%) are worried about a loved one catching Covid-19. One in three kids (34%) reports being scared, and 27% say they’re anxious. But there is a silver lining.

A full 72% of kids say they are excited to spend more time with family and 61% of parents are looking forward to taking on a bigger role in their child’s schoolwork.

One thing is clear: As kids and parents move forward into the new world order, eye care and eyewear with extras like blue-light-filtering lenses will be an essential—and color-soaked style will add some fun back into the everyday.

TREND #1: EYE-POPPING COLOR.

THINKING PINK

Bright, fun colors help elevate and inspire. The Converse Kids VCJ002 from De Rigo REM features a soft cat-eye silhouette in an inspiring pink hue embedded with shimmering glitter.

TREND #2: THE POWER OF PURPLE.

ELECTRIFYING THE WORLD

Purple is in charge on the color wheel this season, including softer hues of orchid shown here on the Draper James DJ1005 from Altair Eyewear, a luminescent metal frame with purple tortoise temples. Available Fall 2020.

TREND #3: UPLIFTING SILHOUETTES.

THE CAT’S MEOW

Kids’ specs shapes channel feminine fun in cat-eye looks soaked in cool colors. Here, the GUESS GU9192 from Marcolin pops in a turquoise hue with a pink interior.

TREND #4: TEEN STYLING.

MOOD MATTERS

From tweens to teens, eyewear for older kids leans into more sophisticated looks amped up with fun details. The Carrera Teen 2017T from Safilo serves up style in a round geometric frame in gold metal.

TREND #5: COOL FACTOR.

FLYING HIGH

Hip styling hits the design ethos of kids’ eyewear this season, evidenced in the kid/teen air rim titanium Lindberg Sofus frame, a screwless aviator style in purple.
