Los Angeles-based eyewear label Dom Vetro has launched full-coverage face shields, produced in its Culver City factory, to protect essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"In light of current events, we sought to find a way to use our factory and expertise to help protect those on the frontlines," says Dom Vetro Founder Ashley Bezamat. "The Shield is compatible with anyone’s existing eyewear and made from locally-sourced materials to keep our production time as short as possible. Plus, it’s reusable, making it far less wasteful than some of the other options currently out there."
Sold in a kit, the Shield includes a translucent sheet of fog-free, high-clarity plastic, two industrial-strength fasteners that the wearer can use to attach the plastic to any pair of optical glasses, sunglasses, safety glasses, or goggles, and a specialty cleaning cloth. Designed to fit over medical and N95 masks, the Shield provides full-coverage of the wearer’s eyes, nose, and mouth, without affecting their central or peripheral vision. The Shield can be washed with soap and water and reused.
Shield kits are offered at $21.95, and customers can also have messages permanently etched onto their shields, or shields they’re donating, for an additional $3.00. Discounted rates are available for bulk wholesale orders.
"We hope that, using what limited resources we have as an independent manufacturer, we can help those who are risking their lives to help us," shares Bezamat. "We are also actively seeking donations to enable us to distribute Shields free of charge to medical personnel."
